he meant that we cant be a "big" country (big meaning great and united and powerful, not about size) because we tend to create minorities.
english is spoken only in gb; every european country has his history and language since thousands of years, so i think that europe will never be really united. to be united, one of the fundamental points should be a single language: whos gonna renounce? the frenchs, the italians etc? and how, after so much time?
an example: the usa r united cause they "grew up" together relatively to europe, and in fact they speak the same language.
about adopting a second language, in italy few ppl accept to learn english seriously, as few ppl have really the need to use it (and probably elsewhere is the same). so the system is stuck.
and having the same coin (€) is not enough.. just helps for an economic union (maybe....)
